Our Curriculum
Modern Foreign Languages (French)
At Oldfield School, we believe that learning a foreign language is an essential part of a broad and balanced education. In Key Stage 2, all children learn French, developing key communication skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Our French curriculum is designed to be engaging, inclusive, and accessible, laying strong foundations for future language learning.
Language teaching at Oldfield fosters curiosity about the wider world and builds pupils’ confidence in using a new language. Children explore vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammatical structures through a variety of interactive and creative approaches. They also gain insights into French culture and traditions, enriching their global awareness and cultural understanding.
Through carefully sequenced planning, we ensure progression across mixed-age classes, allowing all pupils to revisit and deepen their knowledge over time. By the end of Key Stage 2, children are equipped with the fundamental language skills and enthusiasm to continue their language learning journey into secondary education and beyond.
