Outdoor Learning at Oldfield
At Oldfield, we believe that some of the most powerful learning happens beyond the classroom. As part of our Forest School offer, children take part in regular outdoor learning sessions throughout the year, held in the beautiful woodland area near Ponden Reservoir. These sessions are delivered in partnership with Within the Woods, a specialist outdoor learning provider.
Through hands-on activities such as shelter building, cooking over open fires, creative play, and nature exploration, children develop confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for the natural world. Outdoor learning is not just an enrichment—it’s an essential, inspiring part of how we help children grow.
Adventures of a Lifetime
At Oldfield Primary, we believe in giving children the chance to step outside their comfort zones, challenge themselves, and experience the thrill of the great outdoors. Our Outward Bound adventure trips are a highlight of school life—an unforgettable opportunity for pupils to grow in confidence, independence, and resilience.
These trips take our children into natural environments where they take part in a wide range of adventurous activities. Pupils scale rock faces through rock climbing, experience the rush of abseiling down cliffs, and trek through rugged landscapes on challenging hikes. They discover the power of teamwork and determination as they take on gorge walking, navigating through rivers and waterfalls, and develop essential survival skills by building fires and shelters in the wild.
More than just physical challenges, these adventures promote personal growth, encourage problem-solving, and help children learn to support one another. Surrounded by nature, away from screens and routines, they find new strengths in themselves—and often leave with memories that last a lifetime.
Our Outward Bound trips are not just about adventure—they're about discovering what’s possible when you dare to try.
