Art

Oldfield-295-1

At Oldfield, we believe that every child is an artist. Our art curriculum encourages children to express themselves creatively and imaginatively while developing a broad range of artistic skills. Through drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printing, weaving and more, pupils explore ideas, reflect on their experiences, and learn about significant artists, designers, and craft makers from different cultures and periods.

Art is closely linked to our creative curriculum, allowing children to connect their artistic learning with wider topics. Lessons are carefully sequenced to ensure progression in both skills and knowledge, while also nurturing curiosity and emotional expression. Each child builds a personal sketchbook portfolio that follows them through school, showcasing their artistic journey and development.

Our approach encourages experimentation, critical thinking, and the ability to evaluate and appreciate visual arts. We aim to foster a life-long love of art, while helping children understand how art and design reflect, shape and contribute to history, culture, and society.
