Computing

Oldfield-085

At Oldfield, our computing curriculum equips children with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We provide a broad and engaging curriculum that builds a deep understanding of computer science, information technology, and digital literacy.

From Early Years through to Year 6, pupils develop their problem-solving, programming and data-handling skills while learning to use technology safely, respectfully and creatively. In Key Stage 1, children begin by exploring simple algorithms and using technology purposefully. This learning deepens in Key Stage 2, where pupils develop more complex programming skills, understand computer networks, and explore how technology impacts the wider world.

We place a strong emphasis on vocabulary progression and cross-curricular links, using computing to support learning in other subjects such as science and maths. Lessons are carefully sequenced to revisit key concepts while introducing new challenges, helping pupils apply their knowledge confidently across different contexts.

Our aim is to ensure that all children become responsible, competent and creative digital citizens, well-prepared for the future. They leave Oldfield confident in using a range of hardware and software, and with a positive, informed understanding of their role in the digital world.
