Our Curriculum
History
At Oldfield, we believe that learning about the past helps shape thoughtful, informed citizens of the future. Our History curriculum is designed to ignite curiosity, deepen understanding, and bring the past to life through engaging topics and meaningful connections.
From ancient civilisations to more recent events, children explore how societies have changed over time and what we can learn from them. Through studying significant moments in history, pupils explore key values like democracy, equality, and respect, linking historical understanding to the world they live in today.
We make the most of our rural location and rich local heritage to deepen children’s understanding of history in context. Pupils investigate the history of Haworth, the Worth Valley, local mills, and nearby sites like Saltaire and the canal network, exploring how these places have shaped our community and contributed to national stories.
Throughout the year, we mark important events such as Black History Month and Remembrance Day, encouraging reflection, empathy, and a strong sense of identity.
At Oldfield, History is more than just learning about the past—it's about understanding how the past has shaped who we are today and inspiring children to make a difference in the future.
