At Oldfield Primary, we are proud to promote the fundamental British values as part of our commitment to preparing pupils for life in modern Britain. In line with guidance from the Department for Education, these values are embedded across our curriculum and school life—not taught as standalone lessons, but lived and experienced every day.

We encourage all our pupils to treat others with respect and tolerance, regardless of differences in faith, race, or culture. We also help children understand that while people may hold different views about right and wrong, everyone in England is subject to its laws.

The British Values we promote are:

  • Democracy

  • Rule of Law

  • Individual Liberty

  • Mutual Respect

  • Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

How We Promote These Values:

  • Through assemblies, lessons, and class discussions that explore and reflect on these values.

  • By encouraging pupil voice and democratic participation, such as through our school council.

  • By setting clear expectations around behaviour, fairness, and justice.

  • By celebrating diversity and challenging intolerance wherever it may arise.

  • By involving staff, pupils, and families in upholding these principles in all aspects of school life.

These values help shape a kind, inclusive and thoughtful school community.
